Caregivers in Japan earn lower than in US, UK

MANILA, Philippines -- Caregivers in Japan earn an average monthly salary of $1,554, less than half than those in the United States who get $3,359, but almost twice higher in the Middle East countries who are being paid $959, a Senate study showed.

In the United Kingdom, caregivers receive about $2,059 per month, according to the Senate comparative study of caregivers’ salaries.

The survey comes as Senate hearings for the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA) are set to start next week unless overtaken by budget hearings, Senate foreign relations committee chair Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago said Tuesday.

I work as a caregiver here in the U.S. at an Assisted Living for only $9 per hour. My counterparts in Japan are earning more than I do.
